There was a group called "The Fisherman's Fellowship". They were surrounded by streams andlakes full of hungry fish. They met regularly to discuss the call to fish, and the thrill of catchingfish. They got excited about fishing!!
Someone suggested that they needed a philosophy of fishing, so they carefully defined andredefined fishing, and the purpose of fishing. They developed fishing strategies and tactics. Then they realized that they had been going at it backwards. They had approached fishing fromthe point of view of the fisherman, and not from the point of view of the fish. How do fish viewthe world? How does the fisherman appear to the fish? What do fish eat, and when? These areall good things to know. So they began research studies, and attended conferences on fishing. Some traveled to far away places to study different kinds of fish, with different habits. Somegot PhD's in fishology. But no one had yet gone fishing.
So a committee was formed to send out fishermen. As prospective fishing placesoutnumbered fishermen, the committee needed to determine priorities.
A priority list of fishing places was posted on bulletin boards in all of the fellowship halls. Butstill, no one was fishing. A survey was launched, to find out why… Most did not answer thesurvey, but from those that did, it was discovered that some felt called to study fish, a few tofurnish fishing equipment, and several to go around encouraging the fisherman.
What with meetings, conferences, and seminars, they just simply didn't have time to fish.
Now, Jake was a newcomer to the Fisherman's Fellowship. After one stirring meeting of theFellowship, Jake went fishing. He tried a few things, got the hang of it, and caught a choice fish.At the next meeting, he told his story, and he was honored for his catch, and then scheduledto speak at all the Fellowship chapters and tell how he did it. Now, because of all the speakinginvitations and his election to the board of directors of the Fisherman's Fellowship, Jake nolonger has time to go fishing.
But soon he began to feel restless and empty. He longed to feel the tug on the line once again. So he cut the speaking, he resigned from the board, and he said to a friend, "Let's go fishing."They did, just the two of them, and they caught fish.
The members of the Fisherman's Fellowship were many, the fish were plentiful, but the fisherswere few.

The English Character
To other Europeans, the best known quality of the British,
and in particular of the English, is “reserved”.
A reserved person is one who does not talk very much to strangers,
does not show much emotion, and seldom gets excited.
It is difficult to get to know a reserved person:
he never tells you anything about himself,
and you may work with him for years without ever knowing where he lives,
how many children he has, and what his interests are.
English people tend to be like that.
Closely related to English reserve is English modesty.
Within their hearts, the English are perhaps no less conceited than anybody else,
but in their relations with others they value at least a show of modesty.
Self-praise is felt to be impolite.
If a person is, let us say,
very good at tennis and someone asks him if he is a good player,
he will seldom reply “Yes,”
because people will think him conceited.
He will probably give an answer like,
“I’m not bad,” or “I think I’m very good,” or “Well, I’m very keen on tennis.”
Even if he had managed to reach the finals in last year’s local championships,
he would say it in such a way as to suggest that it was only due to a piece of good luck.
Since reserve and modesty are part of his own nature,
the typical English tends to expect them in others.
He secretly looks down on more excitable nations,
and likes to think of himself as more reliable than they are.
He doesn’t trust big promises and open shows of feelings,
especially if they are expressed in flowery language.
He doesn’t trust self-praise of any kind.
This applies not only to what other people may tell him about themselves orally,
but to the letters they may write to him.
To those who are fond of flowery expressions,
the Englishman may appear uncomfortably cold.

Bob Dylan the night we called it a day lyrics/歌词
There was a moon out in space
But a cloud drifted over it's face
You kissed me and went on your way
The night we called it a day
I heard the song of the spheres
Like a minor lament in my ears
I hadn't the heart left to pray
The night we called it a day
Soft through the dark
The hoot of an owl in the sky
Sad though his song
No bluer was he than I
The moon went down stars were gone
But the sun didn't rise with the dawn
There wasn't a thing left to say
The night we called it a day
There wasn't a thing left to say
The night we called it a day

THE night was dark when she went away, and they slept.
The night is dark now, and I call for her, "Come back, my darling; the world is asleep; and no one would know, if you came for a moment while stars are gazing at stars."
She went away when the trees were in bud and the spring was young.
Now the flowers are in high bloom and I call, "Come back, my darling. The children gather and scatter flowers in reckless sport. And if you come and take one little blossom no one will miss it."
Those that used to play are playing still, so spendthrift is life.
I listen to their chatter and call, "Come back, my darling, for mother's heart is full to the brim with love, and if you come to snatch only one little kiss from her no one will grudge it."

A man went into a pet shop and told the owner that he wanted to buy a pet. But, he didn't want your ordinary, garden variety pet! No, he wanted a pet that could do everything!
The shop owner suggested a faithful dog.
The man replied, "Come on, a dog?"
The owner said, "How about a cat?"
The man replied, "No way! A cat certainly can't do everything. I want a pet that can do everything!"
The shop owner thought for a minute, then said, "I've got it! A centipede!"
The man said, "A centipede? I can't imagine a centipede doing everything, but okay... I'll try a centipede." So he got the centipede home and said to the centipede, "Clean the kitchen."
Thirty minutes later, he walked into the kitchen and... it was immaculate! All the dishes and silverware were washed, dried, and put away; the counter-tops cleaned; the appliances sparkling; the floor waxed. He was absolutely amazed.
He then said to the centipede, "Go clean the living room." Twenty minutes later, he walked into the living room. The carpet has been vacuumed; the furniture cleaned and dusted; the pillows on the sofa plumped; and the plants watered.
The man thought to himself, "This is the most amazing thing I've ever seen. This really is a pet that can do everything!"
Next he says to the centipede, "Run down to the corner and get me a newspaper."
The centipede walks out the door. 10 minutes later... no centipede. 20 minutes later... no centipede. 30 minutes later... no centipede.
By this point the man was wondering what was going on. The centipede should have been back in a couple of minutes.
45 minutes later... still no centipede! He couldn't imagine what had happened. Did the centipede run away? Did it get run over by a car? Where was that centipede?
So he went to the front door, opened it ... and there was the centipede sitting right outside.
The man said, "Hey!!! I sent you down to the corner store 45 minutes ago to get me a newspaper. What happened?!"
The centipede says, "I'm goin'! I'm goin'! I'm just puttin' on my shoes!"

A nursery school teacher was delivering a station wagon full of kids home one day when a fire truck zoomed past. Sitting in the front seat of the fire truck was a Dalmation dog.
The children started discussing what the dog's duties might be.
"They use him to keep crowds back," said one youngster.
"No," said another, "he's just for good luck."
A third child concluded. "No silly, they use the dogs to find the fire hydrant!"

My friend Gayle has been "living" with cancer for fouryears and it is proGREssively getting worse. During aconversation with another friend, Gayle expressedthat one of her childhood wishes was to have a redRadio Flyer wagon. As a child she never receivedone because she believed that if you told yourbirthday wish it wouldn''t come true. I was at an icecream stand one day and in the window was aminiature red Radio Flyer wagon that could be wonin a weekly drawing. Every time you make apurchase you could fill out a ticket for a chance towin. After several weeks and many ice cream cones, I didn''t win. I got up the courage to askthe person in charge if I could buy one. I went to the window and as I began to tell my story, Icould feel my throat tighten and my eyes overflowed with tears. Somehow I managed to explainmy reason for wanting to purchase the wagon, and after writing a check, I left carrying it.The wagon was delivered the next day, and for Gayle it was dream come true. The followingday I received a letter that read:
Dear Bonnie,
Every once in a while there is an opportunity to pass on a kindness – no questions asked. Ilost my parents to cancer six months apart from each other. I cared for both of them but couldnot have done it without the love and generosity of friends – friends who care.
the best to you,
Norma
It was from the owner of the ice cream stand. Enclosed was my uncashed check.

Why do leaves change color in the fall,
Why do leaves change color in the fall?
Why do leaves change color in the fall? asks PatriciaBrown, of New York City.
Autumn's cool days are trimmed with deep blueskies and golden light, and brilliant leaves of yellow, orange and red. Leaves changing color in the fall area tree's way of preparing for long winter, rather likewe put up storm windows and pull warm clothes andblankets out of storage.
In summer, the leaves on trees like pin oaks andsugar maples are green because they are chock-full of the green pigment chlorophyll.
Trees need sunlight to produce chlorophyll. In turn, chlorophyll uses sunlight's energy tosplit water (H2O) into hydrogen and oxygen. Meanwhile, leaves also absorb carbon dioxidegas from the air. The end products of leaf chemistry: carbohydrates (homemade plant food forthe tree), and oxygen, released into the air (the gas we need to breathe). The whole process iscalled photosynthesis.
Along with green chlorophyll, most leaves also contain yellow, orange and red-orangepigments celled carotenoids. Trees don't need light to make carotenoids. Botanists call them"helper pigments," because carotenoids absorb some sunlight and (nicely) pass the energyalong to chlorophyll. We don't see much of these deputy pigments (carotene, lycopene, andxanthophyll) in summer, because they are masked by abundant green chlorophyll.
But the ever-shortening days of fall mean less daylight and colder weather. The averagetree is rushing to save all the nutrients it can for its winter hibernation. Nitrogen andphosphorus are pulled from leaves for storage in branches. A layer of corky cells growsbetween the leaves' stems and their branches, reducing the leaves' supply of nutrients andwater.
With diminished sunlight, water, and nutrients, chlorophyll synthesis slows. Old, worn-outchlorophyll breaks down at the usual rate--ironically, sunlight destroys it--so each leaf's stockgradually dwindles. And as the green fades, yellow and orange emerge from hiding.
Unlike the green and yellow pigments, red and purple pigments (anthocyanins, part of theflavonoid class) actually form in leaves in the autumn, tinting leaves scarlet and burgundy.
Botanists have long wondered why some trees are genetically programmed tomanufacture anthocyanins in the fall. New research indicates that anthocyanins may be a tree'sown sunscreen.
Anthocyanins are made in a leaf's sugary sap, with the help of lots of sun and cooltemperatures. Botanists think that anthocyanins shield the leaves' fading photosynthesisfactories from too much sunlight, rather like the pigment melanin protects our skin from thesun. While the red pigments act as a shield, the tree feverishly breaks down and pulls nutrientsout of leaves and into its limbs and trunk before leaves drop or die.
Anthocyanins may also act like Vitamin C or E, scavenging so-called "free radicals" beforethey can do oxidizing damage to a fall leaf's fragile structure.
Upper and outer leaves tend to be reddest, since they are most exposed to sunlight andcold. In some trees, like sugar maples, the reds of the anthocyanins combined with the yellowsof the carotenoids make especially brilliant orange leaves.

A certain good woman one day said something that hurt her best friend of many years. She regretted immediately and would have done anything to have taken the words back . What she said hurt the friend so much that this good woman was herself hurt for the pain she caused . In an effort to undo what she had done , she went to an older ,wise woman in the village, explained her situation ,and asked for advice.
Listening to her ,the older woman sensed the younger woman's distress and knew she must help her . She also knew she could never alleviate the pain , but she could teach . She knew the outcome would depend solely on the character of the younger woman . She said ,"Tonight ,take your best feather pillows and put single feather on the doorstep of each house in the town before the sun rises."
The young woman hurried home to prepare for her chore ,even though the feather pillows were very dear to her .All night long ,she labored alone in the cold. Finally the sky was getting light ,she placed the last feather on the steps of the last house .Just as the sun rose, she returned to the older woman.
"Now", said the wise woman,"go back and refill your pillows with the feather you have put on the steps .then everything will be as it was before."
"You know that's impossible! the wind blew away each feather as fast as I placed them on the doorsteps!" the young woman was surprised .
"That's true," said the older woman."never forget. each of your words is like a feather in the wind. once spoken, no amount of effort, regardless how heartfelt or sincere, can never return them to your mouth. Choose your words well and guard them most of all the presence of those of you love. "

a mother duck was brooding on her eggs near the margin of a pond. a flock of lovely baby ducks was soon born, making sweet peeping sounds when the eggs were broken. but one egg remained unbroken. "it is strange. why has this egg not broken?"
the mother duck continued her brooding. at last, the egg was broken and a baby duck was born. however that baby duck was very ugly compared to the other baby ducks.
the mother duck was worried, but still she took the baby ducks near the water and taught them how to swim. the ugly duckling also swam with his brothers and sisters, moving his legs eagerly. "it is lucky though. that baby swims well." still his brothers pecked at the ugly duckling with their bills.
"how hideous this baby duck is. we don't want to see you. go to a cat." his brothers gave a very hard time to the poor duckling. "stop it, don't do that!" the mother duck sighed and said, "ah! i wish that this baby could live happily at another place."
the baby duck heard what his mother said and dropped tears of sorrow saying, "mom, i will leave. good-bye." the ugly duckling left his nest beyond the pond.
when he entered the forest, other birds were frightened by the baby duck and ran away. "why do they run away? is it because i am so awful?" the baby duck became sadder and plodded along the field.
near the water beside the field, two wild ducks were playing around. "yah, what is that ugly duck? let's make fun of him." the two wild ducks flew up in the air and threw stones at the baby duck.
"bang! bang!" at that time, a hunter shot his gun. the two wild ducks fell down dead to the ground. "uh? what is this small bird?" the hunter took home the awkward little baby duck along with the two wild ducks.
"dad, what is this poor-looking bird?" "i took it with me in order to give it to you, my son. it was trembling with fear in the water." the children gave a hard time to the baby duck by pulling its wings and tail.
"that hurts! ow!" the baby duck spilled a jug of milk while running away from the cruel hands of the children. the dishes on the table were also broken. the angry hunter sent out the baby duck with a flourish of his broomstick. and so the after being cast out from the house of the hunter, the ugly duckling spent a long and cold winter alone.
finally spring came. the baby duck had a good stretch and flew up in the air vigorously. "uh! i am flying!"
upon the lake, a flock of white and pretty swans were playing around while swimming. "they are indeed pretty birds." the baby duck became sad. "those birds may not like me as i am so ugly."
the baby duck tried to run away from the group of beautiful swans. "hi! where are you going? come and play around with us!" the baby duck approached the swans hesitatingly. at that moment, the baby duck saw his own appearance reflected to the lake. there was one more beautiful swan gliding gracefully across the water.
the ugly duckling who overcame all suffering had finally become a beautiful swan. and so he lived happily ever after.

To Tell the weather, Go to your back door and look for the dog.
If the dog is at the door and he is wet, it's probably raining. But if the dog is standing there really soaking wet, it is probably raining really hard.
If the dog's fur looks like it's been rubbed the wrong way, it's probably windy.
If the dog has snow on his back, it's probably snowing.
Of course, to be able to tell the weather like this, you have to leave the dog outside all the time, especially if you expect bad weather.
Sincerely,
The CAT

Call Things As I See Them
An umpire has to make instant decision. I've learned to call things as I see them. This helps me make a quick reply to such an important and personal question as my belief. My philosophy of life is simple, with a vital driving force.
I believe in my God, my family, my country, and baseball.
Including baseball may seem out of place in this statement, but I firmly believe that baseball, more than being just a national pastime, is beneficially bound up with American life - certainly with my own. It helped develop me physically as a boy. It taught me teamwork and ability to co-operate with others. Another thing, it taught me to try to play according to the rules of the games. This has helped me throughout life.
My parents came to this country from Italy as poor immigrants. I grew up at a time when even a high-school education was out of reach. My formal education never went beyond the elementary grades. But the lessons I learned at home, at church and on the playground have carried me through.
I believe firmly in higher education. My son was assigned to a baseball contract when he was still in high school but I insisted on a clause permitting him a full four-year college course before starting professional ball.
I believe that even more important than a college education, though, is the good solid practical and religious training in the home and at church. My mother taught me a proper scale of values and trained me to live up to them. I still remember the sand-lot game I had to leave before the final inning so I could get on my Sunday suit and be at church in time for Confirmation.
Experience has proved my belief in the importance of the family. This is where good, useful citizens come from. My wife and I have enjoyed the companionship of some thirty-five years of married life, and we have had the happiness of seeing our two sons grew into manhood and start their own families. We never had the pleasure of having a daughter, but now we happily share three granddaughters and five grandsons. Our happiness with them is a great consolation and comfort against the older years when many a couple grow lonely.
I have found strength and consolation in my church, and I have found peace and help in humble daily prayer when I praise God for His goodness and ask Him to "forgive me my trespasses as I forgive others," and beg His blessings for myself and my family and friends.
So these are the things I believe in:
这些就是我所信仰的:
My God, who has given me a personal destiny and who deserves all praise and service;
上帝,他赐予我命运并值得我的一切赞美和服务;
My family, who have given me happiness and strength;
家庭,它给我幸福和力量;
My country, which has given me every opportunity to live my life according to my conscience;
祖国,它为我提供一切机会按照自己的良心生活;
And baseball, which has given me healthy recreation and solid training for life.
This is my theology and philosophy of life.

My day began on a decidedly sour note when I saw my six-year-old wrestling with a limb of my azalea bush. By the time I got outside, he'd broken it. "Can I take this to school today?" he asked. With a wave of my hand, I sent him off. I turned my back so he wouldn't see the tears gathering in my eyes. I loved that azalea bush. I touched the broken limb as if to say silently, "I'm sorry."
I wished I could have said that to my husband earlier, but I'd been angry. The washing machine had leaked on my brand-new linoleum. If he'd just taken the time to fix it the night before when I asked him instead of playing checkers with Jonathan. What are his priorities anyway? I wondered. I was still mopping up the mess when Jonathan walked into the kitchen. "What's for breakfast, Mom?" I opened the empty refrigerator. "Not cereal," I said, watching the sides of his mouth drop. "How about toast and jelly?" I smeared the toast with jelly and set it in front of him. Why was I so angry? I tossed my husband's dishes into the sudsy water.
It was days like this that made me want to quit. I just wanted to drive up to the mountains, hide in a cave, and never come out.
Somehow I managed to lug the wet clothes to the laundromat. I spent most of the day washing and drying clothes and thinking how love had disappeared from my life. Staring at the graffiti on the walls, I felt as wrung-out as the clothes left in the washers.
As I finished hanging up the last of my husband's shirts, I looked at the clock. 2:30. I was late. Jonathan's class let out at 2:15. I dumped the clothes in the back seat and hurriedly drove to the school.
I was out of breath by the time I knocked on the teacher's door and peered through the glass. With one finger, she motioned for me to wait. She said something to Jonathan and handed him and two other children crayons and a sheet of paper.
What now? I thought, as she rustled through the door and took me aside. "I want to talk to you about Jonathan," she said.
I prepared myself for the worst. Nothing would have surprised me. "Did you know Jonathan brought flowers to school today?" she asked. I nodded, thinking about my favorite bush and trying to hide the hurt in my eyes. I glanced at my son busily coloring a picture. His wavy hair was too long and flopped just beneath his brow. He brushed it away with the back of his hand. His eyes burst with blue as he admired his handiwork. "Let me tell you about yesterday," the teacher insisted. "See that little girl?" I watched the bright-eyed child laugh and point to a colorful picture taped to the wall. I nodded.
"Well, yesterday she was almost hysterical. Her mother and father are going through a nasty divorce. She told me she didn't want to live, she wished she could die. I watched that little girl bury her face in her hands and say loud enough for the class to hear, 'Nobody loves me.' I did all I could to console her, but it only seemed to make matters worse." "I thought you wanted to talk to me about Jonathan," I said.
"I do," she said, touching the sleeve of my blouse. "Today your son walked straight over to that child. I watched him hand her some pretty pink flowers and whisper, 'I love you.'"
I felt my heart swell with pride for what my son had done. I smiled at the teacher. "Thank you," I said, reaching for Jonathan's hand, "you've made my day."
Later that evening, I began pulling weeds from around my lopsided azalea bush. As my mind wandered back to the love Jonathan showed the little girl, a biblical verse came to me: "...these three remain: faith, hope and love. But the greatest of these is love." While my son had put love into practice, I had only felt anger.
I heard the familiar squeak of my husband's brakes as he pulled into the drive. I snapped a small limb bristling with hot pink azaleas off the bush. I felt the seed of love that God planted in my family beginning to bloom once again in me. My husband's eyes widened in surprise as I handed him the flowers. "I love you," I said.
